Post 1821: We started 2007 with a short meeting, a great dinner and a few cold ones at the Trailhead Brewing Co. in St. Charles, MO. The attending members then met in St. Peters, at a “Freezer Jam” concert of fife and drum corps bands from around the country. We met the “Old Guard fife and Drum Corps” and several members of the “Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Honor Guards.”

In April, we set up our command tent at the Missouri tartan Days Festival in St. Charles, where we served as Color Guard and in the opening festival parade. We recruited some new members and were given a plaque for ‘best military presentation’ in the parade.

In May we furnished the Color Guard for the WW II Festival and ‘we appreciate veterans’ event in historic Kimmswick, MO. We had a ‘kit’ display of Scottish military clothing, web-gear, headgear and edged weapons in our tent. On Memorial Day, PC Don Clement, VC Bob McCallum, Comptroller Mark Balance and QM Christine Clement attended the Inter-Veterans Service at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, where we were introduced and called up to place a poppy on the memorial wreath.

In September, PC Clement, VC McCallum and Adj. Thom McCann attended the Annual Conferals of the Royal Order of Scotland in Kansas City, MO. They received the degrees and became members of the Order. During the weekend, they met many fine men from around the country, including SAMS members, John Weiss, provisional PC of Post 55 in Spokane, WA and his brother Donald from Kalispell, MT.

In October, we furnished a Color Guard for the opening and closing ceremonies of the St. Louis Scottish Games, as well as leading the Parade of Tartans. We had a great weekend representing SAMS, sampling the many great Scottish and Irish beers and eating a wealth of wonderful Scottish foods.

Post 1921: This quarter has been relatively slow for Post 1921. Early October 2007 found us attending the last Games of the season held in Ben Lomond. Also in Oct., several Post members attended the first Western Regional Conference in Las Vegas where ideas were exchanged, stories were told, and best of all, new friendships were formed among members of the various Posts in attendance.

In early Nov. Post members attended the Monterey

County Veterans Council annual dinner where SAMS Councilor Doug Kenyon, was honored as the 2007 Veteran of the Year. Doug’s work continues to be instrumental on behalf of the new Fort Ord State Veteran Cemetery. On behalf of the Post, Doug presented the Council with a check for over $1,900. The check represents monies that were donated during the various Scottish Games the Post participates in throughout the year.

On Nov. 11th, the Post participated in the Veterans’ Day ceremonies held at the CA State Veterans Home in Yountville. This is an annual tradition that we all look forward to. We also provided the Color Guard at the annual St. Andrews Day celebration held in San Jose at Evergreen College.

Post pipers Chuck Jamison, Ken Bain and Bob Rydbeck have represented us at a number of events throughout 2007. Hats off to these gentlemen for their effort to represent SAMS and Post 1921.

We are looking forward to a very busy 2008. Finally, may all of you have a Happy Holiday Season.
