Harvey L. Tri

    Harvey L. Tri, Lieutenant Colonel (Retired), 83, of Zumbrota, passed away on November 26, 2017 at home.

    Funeral services will be held Friday, December 1, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Mazeppa with the Father Will Thompson officiating. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, November 30, 2017 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Mahler Chapel in Pine Island and one hour prior to the mass at the church. Private family burial will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery - Preston.

    Harvey Lloyd Tri was born in Mazeppa, MN to Frank Nicholas and Anna Mary (Stifter) Tri on October 26, 1934. He attended Mazeppa Public School and received his high school equivalence certificate through the general education development program. Harvey worked for Gerhard (Gay) Gahler Radio and Television Sales & Repair Shop. Harvey enlisted in the United States Air Force on October 27, 1951 and completed his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, TX followed by special training in air craft communication systems. During the Korean War, he was stationed in Alaska supporting ground radio multiplex tropospheric scatter communication systems. In 1958, he completed Officer Candidate School and was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. Throughout his Air Force career Harvey specialized in communication electronics systems. He served at various assignments overseas and in the continental United States. He retired from the United States Air Force with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel as a Commander of the 764th Radar Squadron in St. Albans Vermont on June 30, 1975.

    He married Margaret Ellan Andrist on June 23, 1956. Over sixty-one years, they enjoyed the many different location assignments creating memories with family and friends. Harvey enjoyed learning new skills and helping others with those skills. Following retirement, he worked at the Pine Island Building Supply, Zumbro Falls Building Supply and Pine Island Lumber for approximately 20 years. He was an active member of the Mazeppa Veterans Honor Guard, the American Legion Post #588, the Military Officer Association of America, and the Knights of Columbus.

    Harvey is survived by his wife, Margaret; five children, Lori (Jim) Kedrowski of Wasilla, AK; Steve (Kathy), Eyota, MN; Brian (Vicki), Oklahoma City, OK; Ned (Karen Alden) Wasilla, AK; Jeff (Char), Rochester, MN.; five grandchildren, Greg (Caiti), Alex, Chris, Kaitlynne, and Jason.

    Harvey is preceded in death by an infant son Joseph Peter, granddaughter Cheryl, his parents, Frank and Anna; four brothers, John, Walter, Donald, and Thomas and three sisters, Dorothy Johnson, Margaret Dolloff and Catherine Jacobsen.

    In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested in Harvey’s memory are preferred to Mazeppa Veterans Honor Guard or memorial of choice.
