Alvera Morrison Henley Frauenheim

SAMS lost one of its founding members with the passing of Alvera Morrison Henley Frauenheim (OHL# 009).  She was, also, one of the original members of Post 1775 (HL# 002).  An Honor Guard was provided by members of SAMS Post 1775 for her funeral.  In 1980, after several years of discussions,  a meeting was held in her home during the Grandfather Mountain Highland games.  The purpose of the meeting was to finalize the decision to establish the Scottish-American Military Society.  The rest is history!  She and her son, Hal Morrison, SAMS National Counselor, were among those founding members.  To say the least, she was a lady of many accomplishments.

Alvera Veronica Stachowski was born on April 10, 1924 to her parents Alexander and Stella Stachowski in Lacrosse, Wisconsin.  She went to be with her Lord on January 21, 2016 at age 94.  Her funeral was held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensboro, NC.  She joined the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II and subsequently trained and retired as an Occupational Therapist with the Veteran’s Affairs Hospitals.  She met her first husband, William H. Morrison while working at the VA Hospital.  After his passing, she became an active member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary where she met her second husband, J. Paul Henley.  She was an accomplished botanist, specializing in the wild flowers of North Carolina and worked closely with UNC and NC State to further propagation of unique species.  She was a founder and member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Linville, NC (at the base of Grandfather Mountain) and would meet her third husband, Edward E. Frauenheim, Jr., through her faith.  She was a life member of the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games and a founding member of the Loch Norman Highland Games and the founding member of the North Carolina Occupational Therapist Association.  To say the least, she lived life fully and well!

She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Edward; sister, Wanda; husbands William Hal Morrison, J Paul Henley and Edward Frauenheim; and her son Lee Alexander Morrison.  She is survived by her sons Hal Morrison (wife Sherry) of Chapin, SC and Warren Morrison (wife Pat) of Greensboro, NC; Daughters Carolyn Carter and Laura Jean Perdue, both of Greensboro and Betty Pollard (husband Bill); and numerous grand children, great-grand children, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
